A man was rescued from his leisure fishing boat in the Gulf of Mexico after it got into mechnical difficulties. In his own Ricardo Argudo describes how he needed to activate his Personal Locator Beacon after discovering that the VHF radio set was missing from his boat.
A kayaking coach on a day's paddle has used his FastFind PLB to help evacuate a seriously injured kayaker. Sam Milne is head coach at Canterbury Kayaking on New Zealand's South Island. In his own words he describes how his FastFind PLB was used after coming across a seriously injured fellow kayaker on thr Styx river near Hokitika.
I was out deer stalking around the back of Lake Sumner and managed to shoot one. Around 2.30 pm I started off on an unfamiliar down hill track towards the river. It was rough and bluffy.
In late June 2013 Peter Conroy was trekking with his wife and daughter in the Kakadu National Park in Northern Territory, Australia; while walking he slid off a boulder and suffered head injuries and a fractured arm. Using just his uninjured arm he managed to climb up two waterfalls to reach his camp where his eight other companions were. As he was not in a fit state to complete his trek they decided to activate his Fast Find 211 personal locator beacon to summon help.
