The Latest News and Rescue Stories

Portsmouth, UK 10th June, 2014 – McMurdo Group, the global leader in end-to-end search and rescue and maritime domain awareness solutions, today launched the SmartFind M10W AIS Class B transponder and SmartFind M15S AIS Receiver.

The McMurdo SmartFind M10W AIS Class B Transponder with WiFi is part of McMurdo’s evolving range of innovative AIS products.

AIS Class B products transmit vessel position information as well as receiving all AIS targets within 20 miles of the boat.  Using the built-in GPS receiver, the SmartFind M10W determines position, speed and course, and once this is combined with other navigational information, it is automatically transmitted without any user interaction.   When received by other vessels and coast stations, the data is built up to provide a live graphical display of traffic in the area.

SmartfindThe M10W features Wireless connectivity to a user’s smart device (tablet, phone, laptop) allowing operational flexibility. It is aimed at smaller non SOLAS vessels where the complexity of a Class A Transponder is not necessary. Engineered for flawless integration with navigation systems, the SmartFind M10W supports NMEA2000 and NMEA0183 output, meets IEC 62287 and related standards.

The SmartFind M10W has an SD card slot, so can be easily used as a data recorder. This feature enables the capture of all AIS messages - to assist in system and safety monitoring, including incident investigation.  Recorded data is logged and stored, or transmitted automatically via WIFI to connected devices. The device also features a ‘Silent’ option, allowing the user to temporarily stop the broadcast of identifying information on occasions where either privacy or security is required.

The McMurdo SmartFind M15S AIS with VHF Splitter is a low cost AIS receiver that receives all Class A, Class B, AIS SART, AIS MOB and AIS Base Station transmissions, plotting their positions directly on a user’s chartplotter or computer. At only 128 x 88 x 36 mm it is compact and easy to install and set up, supporting integration with existing navigation systems via its NMEA0183 or USB interfaces.

This model has theadded innovation of a built in VHF Splitter, providing shared antenna capability with a user’s VHF Radio, making the M15S more cost effective and simpler to install (as no additional aerial is needed).

Renowned for its McMurdo distress beacons for the maritime industry, McMurdo Group now combines proven brands Boatracs, Kannad, McMurdo and Techno-Sciences, Inc. which together form the industry’s first single-vendor provider of end-to-end search and rescue and maritime domain awareness solutions.
