McMurdo is delighted to announce its support of UK ocean racing sailor, Pippa Hare. World leaders in the manufacture of marine safety equipment, McMurdo has presented Pippa with a new Fast Find 220 PLB, Cospas-sarsat distress Beacon, and serviced her current Smartfind EPIRB ahead of her 2013 Mini Transat single-handed sailing race.
Pippa is the only British entrant taking part in this year’s race. On receiving her Smartfind EPIRB and Fast Find 220, she commented, “I’m so grateful to McMurdo for providing me with this equipment. I am a long-standing supporter of McMurdo and their products, and having bought my EPIRB in 2009, I’m pleased to say it has lasted four years and seen over 20,000 miles in some tough racing conditions.”
In the 2013 Mini Transat race, Pippa will be sailing 3,800 miles from France to Guadeloupe and sets sail on 13 October. The race is notorious for its dangers due to the solitary conditions and huge distance of open water to sail and having an EPIRB onboard is a requirement from Race Organisers. Pippa, who was placed 17th overall in the 2011 Mini Transat, is currently training to compete in this year’s race - an event that is widely recognised as one of the world’s toughest endurance races. A highly experienced ocean racing sailor, Pippa has clocked up over 120,000 miles across the worlds’ oceans, including the Pacific, the Atlantic and as far south as Patagonia
Ross Wilkinson, General Manager of Orolia Ltd, comments, “We are thrilled to be able to provide Pippa with our products for what is a gruelling race. The fact that she continues to stand by the McMurdo brand of safety equipment is testament to the work we put in to ensure we deliver the best products on the market.”
